Foreman

Reports to: General Superintendent

Summary of Position:

The Foreman will act as the project site supervisor for assigned project. Foreman will directly supervise craft labor assigned to the project by the General Superintendent. Foreman must understand the project scope(s) as assigned and is responsible for the planning and execution of the construction site work for the assigned project scope(s). The Foreman will have direct daily communication with the General Superintendent and Management/Engineering support staff as necessary to plan, schedule and execute the work. 

General Requirements & Responsbilities

SAFETY

  • Full implementation of OSHA/MSHA regulations, company safety policy and jobsite specific safety requirements, as required for each project.

  • Must ensure a full understanding of site-specific safety plan and all hazards are understood by all on-site personnel (both internal and external).

  • Participate in pre-job site specific safety plan with the GS.

  • Complete the daily JHA through HeavyJob, including daily crew sign out.

  • Complete or delegate completion of daily or other frequency as assigned equipment inspection forms.

  • Report and remedy procedures or practices that may be unsafe.

  • Work with GS to complete first report of injury/near miss accident reports.

  • Maintain OSHA and other certifications as necessary for projects assigned.

LABOR/PROJECT STAFFING

  • Recommend field staff commendations and disciplinary matters to GS.

  • Perform weekly staffing review to plan and balance workforce.

  • Assist GS in implementation of ECI employee management procedures are adhered to, such as Minority participation, pre-employment (drug testing and background checks), employee reprimands and write-ups and dismissal paperwork.

  • Review job functions with craft labor and provide training or work with GS to arrange training and education as necessary.

EQUIPMENT

  • Implement ECI equipment management policies including equipment maintenance, equipment reporting, rental equipment management, and equipment damage reporting and repair management as directed by GS.

  • Develop proposed equipment spread and make up for approval by the GS.

PLANNING

  • Participate in a weekly 3-week project look ahead schedule review with GS and project team.

  • Attend preconstruction meetings as assigned.

  • Attend and participate in company pre-job meetings and coordinate pre-job activities as assigned.

  • Participate with project team in the evaluation and development of the projects task specific work plans as assigned.

  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted, as well as the ability to multi-task on multiple projects and activities.

ECI employees must have competency, work cooperatively with other employees, and have a good positive attitude. They must be punctual and ready to work, arriving with enough time prior to be ready for the shift. They must work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials;

  • Work long shifts with non-standard break times;

  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements;

  • Must have good hand-eye coordination;

  • Must have quick reaction times;

  • Must be able to hear adequately enough to be alerted by horns, sirens, shouting, or any other noise that is meant to convey a safety warning;

  • If corrective device is required to achieve this level of hearing, the employee must be able to wear PPE without interfering with the corrective device or the required PPE;

  • Must have good balance and must not be clumsy;

  • Climb ladders or steps to reach objects;

  • Must be able to work at heights of up to 100’ or more;

  • Must be able to work in confined or enclosed spaces;

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time;

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time;

  • Must be able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots;

  • Must be able to walk moderate distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more)
